It’s always a bright day when fashion and economic empowerment can thrive together. We were tickled pink when we found out that one of our favorite jewelry designers, Jenny Bird, was partnering with fair trade pioneers Far + Wide Collective to produce an exclusive collection that does just that.
Winter trends are in full bloom, from tactile textures, ladylike prints, and a fair share of sparkle, ’tis the season to layer up your look with fashion’s finest.
While I’m already beginning to mourn the end of summer, I must say that for the sake of fashion, I am excited to trade in my shorts for fall’s amazing trends. It’s a season to be daring and take risks, to mix and match prints, embrace tactile textures, and modernize looks of days past.
This past Monday night, I had the immense pleasure of accompanying my dear friend, and one of my favorite designers, Misha Nonoo, to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund in NYC.
NYFW. Even the acronym somehow felt intimidating to me. The premise of being surrounded by pin thin models, tastemakers who wear socks with open toed shoes, and designers – the fortunate few whose work would be paraded down runways – who likely said words like “fierce” just because. I imagined they even fancied their morning espresso and apple to be fierce.
Lord knows I love a hat. If you check out my Instagram on any given day, you’re apt to find me in the same panama hat and aviators that I’ve been hiding under for a few years. So I thought it might be time for a change. Cue the cool, weathered, one of a kind hats you’ll find at 18 Waits.
You see these distinctive clutches on every red carpet. The acrylic objet-d’arts in throwback shapes and designs echoing those carried by starlets of the ’50s and ’60s. Brett Heyman, the LA born designer, who ran PR for Gucci until 2010 when she launched her adored line, Edie Parker, coveted the bags she would find at local second hand stores and flea markets.
Andrea Lieberman’s eponymous collection, A.L.C. has garnered accolades from the CFDA, and graced the pages of WWD, Vogue, and Harpers Bazaar. And there’s good reason. This New Yorker & Parsons School of Design grad, sheathed everyone from Jennifer Lopez and Gwen Stefani to Gwyneth Paltrow and Cameron Diaz when she worked as a stylist before launching her line.
You see them coming from a mile away. They are the modernized realization of Rainbow Bright… times two. I met the Beckerman Twins (Samantha Beckerman & Caillianne Beckerman) last year at a dinner hosted by The Coveteur (my friends and fashion savants) & The Outnet (where I buy fantastic finds, like this & this).
About a month ago, I was late night Instagramming, after a very looong 14 hour day on set. I was wired, and wanted to numb my brain with mindless pix of shoes or people making duck faces. But what I stumbled upon wasn’t mindless at all. It was a perfectly crafted dress. A beautiful, glorious, effortlessly sexy dress.
