Perhaps it’s the girly girl in me. Maybe it’s the fact that if given the choice between punk and pretty, I will always vote for pretty. For women looking like ladies. For the opportunity to wow with class and grace and fairytale level ball gown beauty. So when it was announced that the Met Ball theme this year would be honoring Charles James, America’s first couturier, who revolutionized women’s fashion & celebrated their curves by hugging them in beautiful figure eight skirts, and sculpted gowns, I was tickled with delight. And here’s the icing on the cake, and what makes him a man after my own heart: he designed the Pavlovian waistband, a feature which allows the waist of the frock to expand after a meal. Yes, please, and thank you. Us foodie femmes of the world salute you, Mr. Charles James.
The lineup for this evening’s Met Ball includes the usual suspects: Sarah Jessica Parker, Emma Stone, Zoe Saldana, Jessica Chastain, a Prada clad Lupita Nyong’o, and friend of the TIG, Ms. Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera.
Looking forward to seeing the parade of pretty on the red carpet tonight, and to toasting to the beauty of fashion at its purest, most feminine form. Thank you, Ms. Anna Wintour, for making this year’s theme ever so pretty.
